Sit Down is a film based on three chairs that belonged to Ferdinando Martini the first civilian governor of the Italian colonial occupied Eritrea. The chair of his retirement, that of his study and that in which he breathed his last breath. Grappling with the implacable veneration of his legacy in the context of Pistoia, the piece engages artist Jermay Michael Gabriel and boxer Yosief Teklay in ritual gestures of resistance. The work was realized in the context of a residency at Fondazione Jorio Vivarelli and is supported by the Regione Toscana. The texts bring together W.E.B. Du Bois, Ezra Pound and Martini himself based on research carried out at the Biblioteca Forteguerriana.
